What's makes us different? As an online retailer and small family business, we are working extra hard to help out the "Mom & Pop" manufacturers out there that we know carry quality goods but just don't have the staff to help them get their product online to sell. And, whenever possible, our products are "MADE IN THE USA" because we feel the crunch, too! My story: Over the last 25 years, I have worked for non profits (Greenpeace, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity) exploring and working for positive social and environment changes. As a volunteer, I have done disaster relief work, including three weeks in Alabama helping fisherman in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I have lived in Brazil and Nepal in the last two years and have taken note of how other cultures are dealing with hyperinflation, poor sanitation and contaminated water and food supplies. I have learned a lot overseas about how to live offgrid, conserve energy and protect food supplies. As an American, I feel that it is a special time in our history and we may be facing unprecedented economic and environmental difficulties that will require that more mainstream citizens learn to curb energy consumption and return to a more sustainable way of living in balance with the resources that our planet offers. I enjoy being outdoors and am an avid hiker, backpacker, camper, kayaker and general tree hugger and also believe that the more people can get outdoors to enjoy what nature offers us, the more likely it is that they will want to preserve and protect our natural resources. I would like to help people learn to live comfortably while reducing their negative impact on the finite resources we have... and I think a return to a more "frontier" lifestyle may be the answer. I created "Into The Wilderness" because I love the products I sell and because I would like to help others who are passionate about living offgrid find quality products at an affordable price so that they can enjoy the benefits of frontier living, too.
